About

State of Nevada Employee Association, Las Vegas

Beginning in 1951 there was an organization known as the Nevada Highway Employees' Association. It was primarily a social organization without any staff, little legislative lobbying and no representation for its members. On January 10, 1953 the organization opened its doors to all employees regardless of where they worked in state government. That first meeting was to establish the framework for a state employees association. The name was changed to the Nevada State Employees Association and one of its first goals was to establish a statewide merit system. That goal was accomplished when the law establishing the state personnel system was signed by then-Governor Charles Russell on March 30, 1953.
